About Me
Surreal Dimensional Art by Matt Ciranni
I am a graphic artist based out of Boise Idaho. Since the beginning, I have been fascinated by linear perspective in art and architecture, while also drawing inspiration from the beauty and patterns of nature. My work incorporates both of these themes. The drawings utilize stark linear perspective to create images with science fiction and fantasy themes and surreal landscapes, with focus on depth of field and complex detail to draw the viewer into them. Some of my drawings blend the natural world with futuristic sci-fi images, and some of them features surrealistic takes on familiar landscapes.
While living in Santa Cruz, California, I started developing this style in the mid-1990s. My earliest inspirations were, of all things, first-person dungeon crawler video games. I soon realized that with perspective drawing, it was possible to apply this drawing principle to all kinds of subjects, both futuristic architectural settings, fantasy landscapes, and even nature. I refined and developed my technique over the years, incorporating multiple vanishing points and natural scenic illustration into my works. Beginning in 2011, I started showing my work at various local art events and venues around the Boise area, and have enjoyed participating in many public showings and exhibits since that time.

Things that inspire me are liminal spaces, those places where people pass through but do not linger. Also, over the years, many of my dreams have given me direct inspiration and have come to life in my drawings. In addition, numerous sci-fi and fantasy novels have also provided a field of ideas. But most of all, I take inspiration from being out in nature and enjoying the fantastic places which I love- Both where I grew up and which I continue to explore in the back country of the inland Pacific Northwest.
